Amazon Case Study

WolfPeak was engaged by Amazon Australia to complete a suite of sustainability services to assess and improve the environmental performance of two Amazon buildings in Sydney. The project contributed to the efforts of Amazon’s Asia-Pacific region to the company’s net-zero by 2040 climate pledge.

GOALS AND OUTCOMES

WolfPeak conducted a in-person sustainability audit of the two buildings, assessing the environmental performance across eight focus areas including lighting, equipment, building envelope, water and waste management. The in-person audit was complemented by a desktop review of Amazon’s environmental policies and procedures, and preparation of a greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory for the two buildings, focusing on energy, waste and water consumption.

Several recommendations were identified from the audit, desktop review and GHG inventory assessments that could help Amazon improve the efficiency of their operations. Where feasible, the potential emissions reduction and cost savings of the recommendations were estimated including changing temperature settings, using equipment with a higher star rating, and increasing usage of natural light instead of artificial light.

The combination of an in-person audit and desktop data analysis proved effective as a number of emissions reduction opportunities were only noticeable upon visiting the buildings such as occupancy rates and office layouts.

WolfPeak also developed a carbon offset guidance document to improve Amazon’s understanding of the role of carbon offsets in emissions reduction pathways and help Amazon purchase carbon offsets that align with company goals and values.

The sustainability audit approach and results, and carbon offset guidance was shared with Amazon’s Asia-Pacific team for consideration for rolling out to other locations in the region.

Our experience, insights and relationships mean we get the job done with a minimum of fuss.
